Water is essential to the human body’s survival. Normally, a person can live without food, but without water, you cannot last a week. This is because water is involved in every major chemical process in your body. It lubricates the joints, protects the liver and kidneys, maintains healthy skin, flushes toxins from the body and carries minerals to which your muscles and nerves respond.
Here are some other benefits:
Water Increases Digestive Efficiency
Roughly 60 to 70% of the human body is made of water. Therefore, having more fluids in your system will help increase the efficiency of your digestive system, as adequate fluid intake reduces the chances of constipation and allows the stool to pass through your system more freely.
Water Fights Various Sicknesses
Water helps with dehydration and decongestion, hence helping the body bounce back when feeling low or under the weather. However, please note that water cannot beat a cold in one swoop, so don’t avoid taking your medication or swapping a trip to the doctor.
Water Assists with Pain Prevention
Muscle strains, cramps and aching joints are also symptoms of dehydration. Therefore, consuming adequate amounts of water daily can go a long way in preventing the pain caused from these various symptoms.
Water Speeds up the Hangover Process
Many people have been in situations where too much alcohol has been consumed. If alcohol gets the best of you from time to time, you may want to reach for a glass of water. This will hydrate the body and get rid of that pounding headache faster.
Water is a Fatigue Buster
Of course, caffeine temporarily helps get rid of exhaustion, but water can help fight those tired eyes too. In fact, one of the most common symptoms of dehydration is fatigue and sluggishness. So, at times, when you feel tired, it’s just your body asking for more water – another reason to go for the big gulp!
Water is Fuel for Muscles
Sweating during a workout can cause your muscles to lose water which results in exhaustion. So, to gain a boost in energy, consume water and push through those final sets.
You don’t have to get carried away with it. No need to guzzle a gallon at a time. Just start the morning with a few glasses and then sip throughout the day. When your urine is clear, you know your consuming enough.
Cheers!
