What You Tell Yourself Matters

I’ve had clients and others I’ve met throughout the years express weight loss struggles with me.
Do you identify with any of these quotes?

“I don’t have time to exercise.”
“I am tired after I get off of work.”
“A gym membership is too expensive.”
“I eat like crap, because the house is already filled with junk food from the kids.”
“I am already overweight, so what’s the point?”
"I am a sugar addict and can't give it up."

If any of the above quotes sound like you, know that you are not alone. It can be challenging to shift your current way of thinking. It’s easy to make excuses. Just try to envision the end result. What does it look like? Buy a pair of skinny jeans. Hang them in your closet door as a constant reminder of what you want your body to look like. How good would it feel to wear those pair of jeans?

According to metaphysical speakers Wayne Dyer and Louise Hay, “I AM” are 2 of the most powerful words you can say to yourself. What you end up telling yourself each day has a negative impact on your body. For example, if you wake up and think or say “I am at an unhealthy weight and there is no end in sight,” it sets the mood for the rest of the day. You feel bad about yourself and are telling your cells to hold onto that extra weight. A more positive affirmation should be “ I am energized and ready to give my body what it needs to have a fit body.”

Here is an reflective exercise from Louise Hay. Write down 50 positive words that describe you and what you love about yourself. Feel free to circle any on this list that resonate with you. Hang it up and revisit it each day.
