The Importance of Electrolytes

Our bodies need electrolytes for strength, vitality and survival. These include, but are not limited to, sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium and phosphate. They carry both negative and positively charged ions- formed when salt and minerals separate and dissolve in water. With this charge present, they can produce an electrical current in water. This current allows electrolytes to regulate how and where fluids in the body are distributed. Each electrolyte has a specific function in the body. If one is out of balance, the others tend to be affected. With proper balance, these electrolytes move nutrients into cells and at the same time eliminate waste from them. They also help prevent muscle cramps, hydrate cells, improve endurance, control nerve impulses, muscle and brain activity, blood pressure stability and much more.

Electrolytes can be depleted through prolonged sweating, caffeinated and sugary beverages, alcohol, fever, severe burns, diarrhea and vomiting. Children, athletes, dancers, elderly and the seriously ill are most susceptible to dehydration/electrolyte imbalance. It's recommended to consume electrolytes right away to replenish everything which was lost. It's a good habit to prevent an imbalance from occurring in the first place. Taking a multivitamin and consuming a variety of fruits and vegetables daily will assist in keeping the body working optimally.

Powder packs, chews and gels containing electrolytes are sold at many sports stores and online. Rejuvenate with Trace Minerals Electrolyte Stamina Power Paks by mixing with water. There are no artificial ingredients or caffeine- just Vitamin C, the major electrolytes and more than 72 verified minerals. In addition, try incorporating sea salt to meals. Both Celtic and Himalayan salts provide all of the minerals the body needs for proper hydration and electrolyte balance.

Eating a nutritional diet, drinking filtered water, taking a multivitamin and supplementing with electrolytes when needed are great habits to maintain on a daily basis. All of these steps will promote quality of life and longevity.

There is no better time to begin than now!
