Do you notice when you feel something is stressful or lacking in your life, you tend to grab for the comfort foods to try to fill that void? When frustrated, do you crave crunchy and salty items such as potato chips or creamy and sweet things such as ice cream? Rather than go to the source and solve it, do you satisfy frustrations with unhealthy food choices? At the end of the day, you are bloated, depressed, unmotivated and purely unsatisfied with your behavior. It becomes a habit until one day you realize you do have control over what goes in your body.
Go back in time and remember when you were immersed in something you loved. Time flew by. You had to force yourself to eat, because you were so consumed in that activity. All senses were heightened. This spark of life nourishes us, so that we are content without food. If we get hungry, our intuition let’s us know which nourishing foods work best for our body. Look at children. When you call them into the house to eat after playing outside all day, they whine and state they don't want to come in. Food is far from their minds, because they are having fun and wrapped up in the moment.
Now remember a time in your life where you felt unsatisfied or empty, such as in a dead-end job. You lacked passion and connection. Food became your means of comfort and temporary satisfaction. All along maybe what you needed was a walk in nature, meditation or journaling session to explore positive ways of moving forward.
Regardless if whatever you are going through feels out of balance or stressful, you have control over what you consume. Your waistline doesn't have to suffer because of it.
Foods to satisfy your cravings:
Creamy: Avocado, yogurt, coconut/almond milk, hummus or sweet potatoes
Salty: Olives, sardines, tabouli, salted edamame, sauerkraut or light popcorn
Crunchy: Apples, grapes, celery/carrot sticks or nuts
Sweet: Fresh fruit, rice cake with nut butter and cinnamon or dark chocolate
Here is a quote by Dream Coach Leon Nacson, “You are what you don’t eliminate. You are what you are hanging onto.” So when you are stuck in that dead-end job, for example, and you are constantly eating to fill that void, you will continue holding onto that extra weight or stress. Once you become motivated to change your situation, everything else will release and you'll feel lighter. Identify what you are holding onto that doesn't belong and work productively to eliminate it.
Just like the flow of the river. If something disrupts flow, water cannot move as freely. Correct all areas of your life, so everything continues to move in a positive direction. Get clear as to what you really want. Doors will open up at the perfect place and time. You'll feel satisfied again and will eat to live rather than live to eat! You'll choose more nourishing foods, because your life will feel fluid.
